quick rundown of my baccano! muses for those of y'all not in the know:
jacuzzi splot: 19-23. leader of a gang of delinquent bootleggers originally from chicago, now located in new york city. a real crybaby, terrified of everything, but incredibly resilient and brave when he needs to be. tangled with the mafia and the camorra && came out on top.
czeslaw meyer: 10-200+ (appearance vs chronologically). an immortal who traveled to north america with a group of alchemists in the 1700s. he's been betrayed && hurt in inconceivable ways, && can hardly be called a child anymore, but despite his old soul && fear of his fellow immortals, he's still just a boy at heart.
elmer c albatross: 21-200+ (appearance vs chronologically). an immortal alchemist who came to north america in the 1700s. his past trauma has made him unable to feel genuine happiness, && he goes through the world detached, yet outwardly chipper && incredibly positive. he feeds off the smiles of other people, hopeful that if he can be the arbiter of universal happiness, he might be able to smile truthfully one day too.
maiza avaro: 28-200+ (appearance vs chronologically). once the leader of a gang of delinquents, children of aristocrats rebelling against their families' power, maiza took up an interest in alchemy as he got older, && eventually traveled with the others to north america in the 1700s. he's now the contaiuolo of the martillo family camorra, soft-spoken && polite, with an unusually warm disposition, but quite deadly when he needs to be, && skilled in combat.
ladd russo: 24-28. the nephew of the don of the russo family mafia, ladd is an unapologetic murderer / hitman. he gets a sadistic pleasure out of killing, && his targets are primarily those who are completely unsuspecting of death. this could be innocent civilians going about their lives obliviously, or seasoned criminals with egos so inflated they see themselves as immortal. despite this, once someone earns ladd's respect && he's loyal to them as friend or sworn family, he's ride-or-die for life, && he'll never turn his back on them.
berga gandor: 25-30 (appearance vs chronologically). the second-oldest of the three gandor brothers, && one of the mafia family's heads, berga is hot-headed && impulsive, a powerhouse of a fighter, && the so-called "tank" of the trio. he's typically responsible for doing the dirty work, but enjoys kicking back with his brothers or getting into scuffles with adoptive brother claire. despite his apparent dim-wittedness && intimidating stature, berga is remarkably emotionally intelligent, && cares deeply for his friends, brothers, && wife. oh — && he's immortal too.

What I watched: Sherry's Netflix Show Recommendations (2021)
What I watched: Sherry’s Netflix Show Recommendations (2021)
Including reading a lot of books (I read 217 in 2020), I also watch a lot of television series. I don’t love all of them. These are the ones I actually liked with a short intro/look into why. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND WATCHING THESE SHOWS. I really do. I’d watch them all over again for the first time if I could. James May in Japan I will watch anything by this man, but his series visiting Japan was…

Screener Squad: Fear City: New York vs The Mafia FEAR CITY: NEW YORK VS THE MAFIA MINISERIES REVIEW By the 1980s, five mafia groups ruled New York City with an iron fist: the Gambino, Colombo, Bonanno, Lucchese, and Genovese families. Together they formed the powerhouse known as the Commission, with fingers in everything from sanitation to the garment district, construction to labor unions. I can't watch true crime or "unsolved mysteries" anymore because then I'm sitting up late at night thinking to myself, Wow, I can never get married because you think you know a guy and marry him and have kids with him but then your marriage sours a little or you have financial problems so he decides to kill you and dismember you and dump you in a river.
Also, never live in a small town.
#mandelene's stuff#the thoughts that go through my mind before bed lmao#true crime#unsolved mysteries#too much netflix#i finished unsolved mysteries so now i'm watching 'Fear City: New York vs. The Mafia' lol#and it's really good

Note
What are your top ten tv shows and documentaries? Always looking for new shows and have always been into true crime.
Hi Love!
hmmm- in no particular order other than how they come to my brain / things I've watched recently
Wild Wild Country
Fear City: New York vs the Mafia
The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez is great, but very hard to watch.
Escaping Twin Flames
The Staircase
White Hot: the rise and fall of Abercrombie and Fitch (this one isn't true crime, but it is super great if you grew up in the mid 2000s like I did)
Forensic Files is always a good one
Cocaine Cowboys (I believe there's two, and both are good)
Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal
Get Gotti

‘Love on the Spectrum’ and ‘Fear City’ add more love and crime to Netflix’s docuseries lineup "Fear City" would appear to be the more marketable of the two, recounting the mob's brazen behavior before the feds figured out how to dismantle the organization, whose "code of silence" and pyramid-like structure made prosecutions difficult.
